Over the past six weeks we have been on a backyard makeover mission. We hadn't touched the backyard since we moved in with the exception of buying patio furniture a year ago. It really didn't have any landscaping to it before, and we really wanted to spruce it up to make it an extension of the house. It's unfortunate that as soon as it was finished it became too hot to sit outside. Damn Houston!
BEFORE pictures
You can see that the previous home owners had a trampoline in the back corner of the yard. They had put in a gravel area for the trampoline to sit on.
This wall's paint was chipping very badly.
There was a cute little herb garden, but I didn't ever water it so everything died.
The gravel area with our old townhouse patio furniture.
The AFTER pictures. We used Artistry Custom Pools and Landscapes, and I have been really happy with them. They are a little family owned landscaping company. We also had a painter come out and paint a few exterior walls.
I bought this planter at Round Top this year. I really wanted succulents in here, and I think they look so good!
This was my grandmothers patio table that I bought cushions and pillows for (Ballard Designs and OKL). The lantern on the table is from One Kings Lane, and the new light fixture on the walkway ceiling is from Shades of Light.
The little tree you see in the below picture is a Pineapple Guava Tree, and it is surrounded by Red Ruffle Azaleas.
I am so excited for what this will look like in a year or two! It is called star jasmine and will bloom little white flowers. The plants in front of the diamond trellis are Agapanthus.
On the back fence we planted three Ligustrum trees, along with Boxwoods, Indian Hawthornes, Gardenias, and Loropetalums.
We have a man hole in our backyard along the back fence. That is how the two potted boxwoods came into play. The right boxwood in the picture is sitting on the man hole!
We filled in the gravel area since we didn't have a need for it. We also added landscape lighting to the three ligustrum trees. We have plans to add a few more landscape lights in the future.
The tree below looks a little droopy. Not to worry, I have watered it extra daily and it has perked back up!
I bought these two little garden stools from One Kings Lane. They pretty look cute under the table as decor, and can function as additional seating. I plan to use this table as a serving table.
And there you have it. I can't wait to have people over this fall to grill and watch football on our outdoor TV!!
