Garage Remodel

A few weeks ago we started a garage makeover. We hired a garage contractor that our friends had recommended to us to finish the garage, add shelves, build in a work bench for Blake's tools, add electrical, and finish the floor. Most of the process, with an exception of the floor, took about two weeks, and we are really happy with the outcome. Our house has very little storage space, and with all of Emerson's stuff accumulating we needed a place to store some things stat. I guess you can say this is a little nesting project. 

Our garage left a lot to be desired. It was one of those garages that had not been touched since the house was built over 50 years ago. Every time I parked in there I would get the heebie jeebies thinking that bugs were about to crawl all over me. It was also hard to get organized in there. Here are the before pictures. 

Terrible floor. 

Random small shelves that have been built by different homeowners over the years made for an unattractive and unproductive wall. 

There were many random electrical plugs that didn't work and didn't serve a purpose. 

The previous homeowners left the shelves that helped us some, but we needed more. The old fridge was given to us for free, but randomly decided to stop working. Blake had gone fishing, caught a bunch of fish, and put them in the freezer. When the fridge went out we had melted fish and fish juice everywhere. It smelled so bad! Then the whole unit decided to freeze (fridge too) and that is were we keep beer and canned drinks. So, not only did we have fish grossness everywhere, we also had exploded coke cans. We were glad to pitch that thing!

We had shelves installed and wanted to have a place to hang our ladders. 

A place for all of my seasonal decorations. 

We had an attic built in the space above the garage and it holds so much! It's a great place for things that we don't use often (or ever) like Blake's hockey equipment and our folding table and chairs. 

Blake got a tool bench for all of his man things. I finally have space in my laundry room now! It also acts a little man cave for him to display things that I wouldn't let him display in our house. :)

We are uber organized now. A tub for hunting/fishing, one for sporting equipment, one for outdoor cushions, one for golf, etc. I've never been this organized in my life! We bought a new fridge at Sears. It was quite the negotiation to get the stainless steel one rather than plain white. Blake thought it was ridiculous, which it probably is, but it looks so pretty. In my defense it was the cheapest stainless steel fridge they sell.

We put down an epoxy finish on the floor which makes a huge difference. This took a few extra weeks to complete because the weather has to be above 75 degrees and dry. We haven't had a ton of those days this Spring until recently.
